Plastics Machining

Plastics Machining

Clean edges and highest precision in plastic

All BZT CNC gantry milling machines are suitable for machining plastics. The PF, PFE and PFI series are frequently used for machining plastic parts and semi-finished plastic products (more on our series below). Semi-finished products made of materials such as PA, POM or PET machine very well. Engineering plastics, however, can be much harder. If, for example, you are not sure how well a material can be machined, we can test this on the demonstration machines at our premises. Please arrange an appointment with us. Our application development team will be happy to discuss with you which criteria matter for your parts.

Typical Materials

Materials commonly machined for this application

Thermoplastics (POM, PA, PE)
Acrylic glass & polycarbonate
Composites (CFRP/GFRP)
Technical foams

Practical Tips

Recommendations from our application engineers for the best results

Crystal-clear edges

With the right cutters and cutting data, you can achieve polishable edges on acrylic glass straight from the machine.

Avoid distortion

Use our vacuum tables and suitable strategies to minimise stresses in the material.

Extraction is a must

Especially with CFRP/GFRP and statically charged chips, a powerful extraction system is essential for health.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mill Plexiglas without melting?

Yes, with sharp single-flute end mills and the correct spindle speed you get perfect edges without melting.

Do I need cooling?

For many plastics, compressed-air cooling is sufficient. For sensitive materials, we offer minimum quantity lubrication.

How do I hold small parts?

A vacuum table is ideal. For very small parts, we use special open-pore fleece or T-slot plates.
